Don B. Smith, 85, of Logan, Utah passed away peacefully of congestive heart failure on May 26, 2013. He was able to be at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on December 28, 1927 in Beaver Dam, Utah to George H. and Ivlue Bowen Smith and was raised in Mendon. He attended South Cache High School where he met his sweetheart, Carol Kendrick of Providence, Utah. They were married August 11, 1948 in the Logan LDS Temple. His working career included Seamons and Loveland Garage, Edgewood Hall, and Logan City, from which he retired after 35 years of dedicated service.
He spent a lifetime of service and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was known for his ability to fix and repair almost anything for anyone, anytime. Don could easily make friends and when he shook a person’s hand, they knew it was genuine – to meet him was to like him, and to know him was to love him.
He was a devoted member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many callings. He was truly loved by the members of the 8th and 25th Wards. Don was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and was very proud of his four children, his 19 grandchildren, and his 36 great grandchildren. Family meant everything to him and he relished time spent supporting them in various activities. Don especially enjoyed being in the outdoors and teaching his family to appreciate camping, hunting and fishing.
Don is survived by his loving and eternal companion of nearly 65 years, Carol, his children Bonnie (Brent) Crosbie, Kohn (Arlene) Smith, Gary (Cathy) Smith, and Kaye Dawn (Dave) Falslev. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Kohn (who died in a tragic sleigh riding accident in their childhood), and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 30th at noon in the Logan 25th Ward Chapel, located at 325 Lauralin Drive, Logan, Utah. A viewing will be held at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 and again on Thursday morning, prior to funeral services, from 10:00 until 11:30 at the Ward building.
