Don H. Nielsen
Providence, UT (formerly Clearfield, UT) - Donald Hansen Nielsen, 85, passed away quietly at his home on Friday, Nov. 14, 2008.
He was born August 2, 1923, in Ogden, UT, to John Willard and Agneta Mary Hansen Nielsen. He was raised in Weston and Preston, Idaho, and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. His battalion landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day and went on to fight in the Battle of the Bulge. Upon discharge, he moved to Clearfield where he met and married his sweetheart, Norma Christensen, on July 3, 1947, and later sealed in the LDS temple. He worked at the Clearfield Naval Supply Depot and retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1974.
He was raised during the depression, which combined with his experiences in WWII, left him with an understanding of the things that are most important. His family, both immediate and extended, was the love of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Norma, of 61 years; son, Les (Kim) Nielsen, Providence; four grandchildren, Lacey (Stephen) Hales, North Logan; Karl (Liz) Nielsen, Logan; Katie Nielsen, Eric Nielsen, Providence; and two beloved great-granddaughters, Madison Jo Nielsen and Ivy Isabelle Hales. He is also survived by two sisters, Helen (Gene) Michaelis, Wellsville; and Gwenva (Earl) Petersen, Elwood, UT; stepbrothers Bob (Betty) Campbell, Garland, UT and Arthur Campbell, Seattle, WA; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two stepmothers, six sisters and eight brothers.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 19th from 10:30 – 11:45 AM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan, UT; followed by a graveside service at 12:30 at the Hyrum City Cemetery, 600 East Main Street in Hyrum. Condolences and thoughts may be expressed to the family online at
