RICHMOND, UTAH: Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully on April 29, 2013 at the Caring Hearts Assisted Living facility in North Logan, UT at the age of 85.
Donna was born on March 7, 1928 in Cedarville, ID to Ruben and Clara Buttars. She was raised in Weston ID. Donna served an LDS mission to the Western States mission. She married Reed Funk on Feb. 2, 1951 in the Logan LDS Temple. She graduated from Utah State University in 1953.
Reed and Donna moved to New Jersey in 1956 where Donna raised her three children and taught elementary school for 30 years. She was also a tremendous support to her husband in his career at Rutgers University.
Donna was a faithful member of the LDS church and served in many callings including Relief Society President, YW President, Stake Primary President and in the Stake YW Presidency. Her favorite calling was that of Sunbeam teacher.
Donna's life was an example of devotion, generosity and selfless service to others. She loved to sew. Many who came in contact with her were given one of her countless beautiful quilts. Her home was always open and she was a gracious host to friends, missionaries, and many of Reed's associates from around the world.
She is survived by her three children; Bonnie (Jeff) Adams, Somerset, N.J.; David (Tamara) Funk, Richmond, UT; and Carol Jean (Brian) Petersen, Thatcher, UT., 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Alton (NaDean) Buttars, Preston, ID; Gayle (David) Bouck, Dayton, ID; VaLoy (Bryce) Packer, Smithfield UT; and Carolyn (Niel) King, Burley, ID. She was preceded in death by her husband Reed and her sister Marlene Koller.
The family would like to express their thanks to the loving care given by the Access Hospice team and the staff at Caring Hearts.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday May 6 at 11:00 am in the Richmond City Creek Ward Chapel 150 S. 100 East. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Sunday, May 5th at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E Center St., Logan and from 9:30 to 10:30 am Monday prior to services at the church.
