Donna W. Nielson, 86, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away May 26, 2013 at Logan Regional Hospital surrounded by family.
She was born April 18, 1927 in St. Charles, ID to Samuel and Thelma Wilkes. She had one brother, Paul whom she was very close to. She graduated from Montpelier High and attended Utah State University where she met her husband, Thomas Albert Nielson. They were married June 25, 1947 in the Logan LDS Temple. They had four children Tana, Teri, Kirk and Greg. Together they owned Thomas Nielson Masonry. Donna returned to USU and graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Business. She lovingly cared for her husband Tom after his heart transplant and together they raised three grandchildren. Tom passed away May 2000.
Donna was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served in many callings including presidencies and as a temple officiator. She was devoted to her family. She loved her children and grandchildren. She was an excellent cook, a beautiful seamstress, a world traveler, an avid reader and a Utah Jazz fan. Family memories at the cabin she built with Tom at Bear Lake will always be cherished. She was a member of DUP, Clio and many bridge clubs. She had many wonderful friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Tana (Phil) Christensen of Las Vegas, NV, Teri (Craig) Simper of Brigham City; her son Greg (Vicki) of North Logan ; her 11 grandchildren Erik, Kira, Kelli, Megan, Brandy, Jake, Kasey, Jordan, Adam, Dylan and Riley and her 19 great-grandchildren Carter, Hayden, Mallory, Raegan, Jackson, Cooper, Natalie, Archer, Katrina, Kelsey, Kevin, Kassie, Kyler, Parley, Emmett, Addie, Ella, Crew and Hunter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 53 years, Tom; her brother Paul; her son Kirk; and a grandson, Jonathan C. Simper.
We will remember her for her loving kindness, generosity, listening ear, elegant style, intelligence, independence and perseverance. She was deeply loved and appreciated by her family and friends. She was a great example to all of us.
