LOGAN, Utah - Donna Jean Brown PETERSON, 73, of Logan, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on Wednesday, June 1,2005 at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake from a brain tumor.

She was born on June 27, 1931 in Provo, Utah, daughter of Albert R. and Margaret Brown. She grew up in Manti, Utah where she graduated from Manti High. After high school, she worked the summers in Yellowstone and Grand Canyon National Parks, attended Snow College then Brigham Young University majoring in Education. She then started working in Salt Lake City as a clerk and typist for the Utah State Department of Health. At this time she lived in the historic Beehive House. During 1953-54, she served a mission for the LDS church to the Eastern States.

She married Karl R. Peterson on March 17, 1956, in the Manti LDS Temple. While attending Utah State University, she and Karl became the first dorm parents for the new apartment type girls' dorms with responsibility of 210 girls working under the direction of the Dean of Women, Mae Welling.

After Jean's husband, Karl, graduated from USU, he became a seminary teacher where he worked for the Church Educational System for the next 40 years. They lived in Panguitch for 3 years before returning to Cache Valley, where they lived in Smithfield, North Logan, Young Ward and finally Logan where they have been for the past 16 years.

During this period of time Jean was very active in both church and community, serving in the Primary Presidency, as PTA President, on the Relief Society Stake Board. Jean has always had a love for reading and music. She was blessed with a very beautiful voice and enjoyed singing in the Northern Utah Choral.

She is survived by her husband Karl and six children: Kirk Peterson, Saudi Arabia; Linda Weller, Salt Lake City; Eric Peterson, Wellsville; Blake Peterson, Logan; Debra (Ted) Peck, Bountiful; Chad (Deborah) Peterson, Logan. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren; one great grandchild; and one brother, Glen Brown, El Paso, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, June 8th at the Hillcrest 1 st Ward Chapel, 875 North 1500 East. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Allen-Cranney Mortuary, 420 East 1800 North, and from 10:30 a.m. until half hour before services on Wednesday at Hillcrest 1st Ward Chapel. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
Jean's family wish to express their deep gratitude to all the doctors and nurses at LDS Hospital for their skill, support and tender care of their mother during her final hours here on earth.
