Donovan V. Howell
Donovan Virgin Howell, 88, passed away April 24, 2012 in Logan, Utah. He was born September 30, 1923 in Riverton, Idaho to William Alfred and Alicia Virgin Howell.
He graduated from Fielding High in Paris and Utah State Institute. He was employed at the local phosphate mine as a miner and electrician.
He married Carol Mary Kunz in the Salt Lake Temple on his birthday, September 30, 1943. They built a home in Fish Haven where they raised their seven children. In 1998, they moved to North Logan Utah. Pioneer Retirement Village became their home in 2010.
He was active in the LDS church serving as a teacher, bishopric counselor, Bishop, stake high council and served eighteen month missions with his wife to West Africa (Nigeria), Singapore (India and Malasia), Capetown, South Africa, and Bagnio in the Phillipines. Following their missions, Donovan and Carol served 14 years in the Logan Temple. Donovan had a love for Scouting and served many years as a Scoutmaster. He received his Eagle Badge along with all his scouts. He later received the Silver Beaver award for leadership in scouting.
Donovan is survived by his wife, children, David (Marcia), Mary Newman, Kenneth (Tammy), Janet Michaelson (Alan), Clayton (Joni), Susan Farrow (Ken) and James (Pam), his sister Rayola Wheelwright, and his brother, Leon Howell. He has forty grandchildren and sixty-seven great grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his parents, brothers, Verlee and Geren, sister Shirla Fry, son-in-law Gary Newman, and daughter-in-law Laurie Howell.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 28 at the North Logan Thirteenth Ward Chapel (1850 North 400 East, North Logan) with viewing Friday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Allen Mortuary, 420 East 1800 North in North Logan and at the Church on Saturday from 9:30 - 10:30 prior to the funeral. Interment will be in Fish Haven, Idaho Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS perpetual Education Fund.
