Surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister, and friend returned to our loving Heavenly Father on November 2, 2024. The strength and faith she exhibited as she battled colon cancer was an example for all of us.
Dora Myers Walker Parkinson was born July 1, 1936, in Mt. Sterling, Utah, to Morris Clark Walker and Sylvia Maye Myers. She grew up in a loving home with her two sisters and five brothers. Dora attended Cache County schools and graduated from South Cache High School.
Dora met DeVon Christiansen Parkinson at a dance in the Elite Hall in Hyrum, Utah. DeVon was home on leave from the military. After a quick courtship they were married on July 15, 1953, and immediately moved to Florida. A new assignment took them to Georgia where they lived until DeVon finished his military service on November 30, 1954, and they moved back to Utah. They were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple on February 3, 1955. Their loving union has spanned 71 years with most of those years in their home in Wellsville.
Dora and DeVon loved to go fishing and camping with their family and friends. They also raised a large, beautiful garden which they enjoyed sharing with their family and neighbors. Dora’s raspberry patch was famous around town and a favorite treat for visitors.
Dora loved flowers, especially roses, and enjoyed having a vase of cut flowers from her yard on her kitchen table. Over the past six months, she has enjoyed a constant supply of fresh flowers brought by generous family members and friends.
Dora was a devoted daughter who spent countless hours providing care for her parents and DeVon’s parents as they aged. She was an affectionate mother and grandmother to 7 children, 32 grandchildren, and 75 great grandchildren with 1 more on the way, and 3 great great grandchildren with 1 more on the way. Dora dedicated her life to her loved ones. She loved each one individually, and they each knew of their importance to her. Dora served God by lovingly serving others.
Dora had a beautiful talent for crocheting, embroidery, and sewing which she used to bless others. She sewed clothes for her children and others including wedding dresses for all her daughters and some of her granddaughters. We estimate that she made and gifted nearly 450 quilts of various sizes for weddings, babies, birthdays, and just because. Fabric stores were some of her favorite places, and she worked at several after her children were grown.
Above all, Dora was a faithful and devoted follower of Jesus Christ. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many church callings. She and DeVon served as ordinance workers in the Logan Temple. She never wavered in her desire and effort to be like her Savior.
Dora is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Brenda Woodward, her great grandchildren, Lucy and Baylor Muir, and her siblings—Lavon Maughan, Venna Saunders, and Lee, Melba, William, and Ralph Walker. She is survived by her husband, DeVon; her children—Elaine Muir (Gary), Gayle Goode (Kavin), David Parkinson (Sherylyn), Carol Goode (Craig), Kathryn Holt (Niel), Robert Parkinson (Kelly), son-in-law Fred Woodward (Diana), her numerous grandchildren, and her siblings—Clark and Charles Walker.
Our family would like to express gratitude to our extended family, ward family, friends, and caregivers who lovingly helped care for mom.
