DORA THOMPSON MECHAM IMLAY
Dora Thompson Mecham Imlay passed away peacefully on November 7, 2011 in Logan, UT. She and her twin brother, Dean, were born March 12, 1923, in Bloomington, ID. She was the tenth of fourteen children born to Hyrum and Cerissa Thompson.
After graduating from Fielding High School in Paris, ID, Dora moved to Salt Lake City to work and attend school. While there she met and fell in love with Howard Mecham, who was serving in the military and stationed at Dugway Proving Grounds. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on December 23, 1943. After Howard was discharged, they lived in the midwest for a few years then settled in St. Charles, ID, and later moved to Fish Haven, ID, where they owned and operated the Fish Haven General Store and post office. Howard passed away June 16, 1975.
After her children were out of the home Dora returned to school at Weber State College in Ogden, UT, where she earned a B.A. and was selected as the School of Arts and Humanities outstanding graduate of 1984. Dora then attended Utah State University and earned a masters degree in English Literature in 1986. She put her education to use by teaching at Brigham Young University and Weber State College. She enjoyed learning and was often reading or writing, creating her own lesson manuals when necessary.
While serving as a temple worker in the Ogden LDS Temple, Dora met and married James (Jim) Imlay on October 12, 1996, and together they served an LDS mission to Adam-ondi-Ahman in Missouri. Jim passed away on May 1, 2000, not long after they completed their mission.
Dora loved her family above all else. She is survived by her five children; Brent (Diane) Mecham, La Placentia, CA; Randy (Jolene) Mecham, Pocatello, ID; Norman (Mitzi) Mecham, Logan, UT; Marilyn (Kirt) Moser, Waynesville, OH; Mary Lou (David) Wise, Orem, UT. She is also survived by twenty-four grand children and twenty-five great grand children, two surviving sisters Edna Smith, Logan, UT; Gay (John) Flint, Syracuse, UT. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon at the St. Charles, Idaho LDS Ward Chapel on Friday, November 11, 2011. A viewing will be held from 10:30 am to 11:30 am immediately preceding the funeral. Interment will be at the St. Charles Cemetery, St. Charles, ID. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
