Doreen Nielsen, 85, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Country Lane Assisted Living in Brigham City, Utah surrounded by her loving family.
Doreen was born on January 21, 1925 in Hyrum, Utah to Ellis W. and Edna Marcusen Nielsen. She was the oldest of five daughters and was raised in Hyrum, Utah. She worked on the family’s dry farm in Idaho. She graduated from South Cache High School and Utah State University with a degree in Home Economics. She served an LDS Mission in the Southern States. After her mission, she started her teaching career in Idaho and spent many years at Murray High School.
She also worked as a librarian, a substitute teacher and was an Avon Representative for many years.
She spent her whole life serving family, friends and all those with whom she came in contact. She loved attending the temple, taking religious classes, traveling, attending the Shakespeare Festival, and supporting the Utah Jazz.
She was an excellent seamstress and candy maker, had a great sense of humor and was always a joy to be around.
She is survived by her four sisters: LuDean Thorstensen of Ogden, Utah, Geraldine (Gary) Leishman of Hyrum, Utah, Jolene Giles of North Ogden, Utah and Deanna (Allen) Rubin of New York, NY. She is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan. A viewing will be held prior to services from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Interment will be in the Hyrum City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at
