Doris D Jones

November 1, 1921 — July 3, 2013

Doris Dahle Jones, age 91, passed from this life peacefully on Wednesday, July 3, 2013. Doris was born in Logan on November 1, 1921, the youngest of three children, to Willard Richard Dahle and Vilate Scott Barson. She attended Logan City Schools and graduated from LDS Business College in Salt Lake City.
Doris was a dedicated wife and mother and worked as a bookkeeper for a combined 20 years at Bordon Milk Company in Logan during her early years, and later at Del Monte Corporation in Smithfield.
When Doris was 7 years old, her father was killed in the line of duty while serving as a Logan City Police officer. Newspaper accounts of Officer Dahle’s funeral held on May 7, 1929, reported that attendance more than filled the Logan Tabernacle and that businesses were closed out of respect. The Logan Police Department honors his name each year with the Willard R. Dahle Award presented to an officer who has given caring, compassionate, and exemplary service to the citizens of Logan City.
Doris was the granddaughter and great granddaughter of early Mormon pioneers who immigrated from England, Ireland, and Norway and she inherited their strength, courage, and determination. She was grateful for her ancestry and proud of the legacy that she leaves behind. Doris and all the family are grateful to the City of Logan for the beautiful new Jones Neighborhood Park recently completed in northwest Logan.
Having grown up during the Great Depression without a father’s support, Doris learned early in life the values of hard work and sacrifice. She continued to live those values throughout her life working with her husband, Jack, on the family farm and in business.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, John C. Jones, who died in 2010; by an infant daughter, Doris Ann; her brother Alton B. Dahle and sister Ina Jessop; and by her parents.
Doris is survived by four children: Roger C. Jones (Susan), Allen D. Jones (Diane), Gloria J. Leonhardt (Laurence), and Virginia L. Jeppesen (Brent), all residing in Logan; 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Mom, we are so grateful for your long life, your patience, tireless support, and amazing strength, never complaining even on the darkest of days. We will deeply miss the daily visits and phone calls, and the frequent family parties. We love you! Moreover, we express our sincere appreciation and heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Logan Regional Hospital, Dr. Steven Salisbury and staff, Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and to so many family members who helped ensure your comfort and care during recent months.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, July 9, at the Allen-Hall Mortuary Chapel, 34 East Center Street in Logan. A visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery. Condolences and thoughts may be expressed to the family online at www.allenmortuaries.net .
