Dorothy Hiibner Leishman, 90, passed away at Rocky Mountain Care in Logan from causes incident to age. She was born January 11, 1928 in Mendon, Utah a daughter of George and Leretta Copen Hiibner. She was the youngest of nine children born to George and Leretta. She attended schools in Cache County.
Dorothy met Loy Miller Leishman at a Saturday night dance at the church in Mendon. He soon left for service in World War II. When he returned in January 1946, they continued dating and were sealed on June 10, 1946 in the Logan LDS Temple. They first made their home in Wellsville, Utah where they welcomed their first son, Dennis Loy, into their family. Loy was employed in Ogden so they moved to Ogden where their second son, Clyde H, was born. They lived in Ogden for 6 years, then purchased their home in Washington Terrace in 1953. They made many close friends while living in the Ogden area. Dorothy enjoyed having a beautiful yard and a clean home. She loved to do handwork and crafts. She worked at Gibson’s Department Store in Ogden from 1963 to 1982, retiring as manager of the Housewares Department. They remained in Washington Terrace until 1996 when Loy suffered from a stroke and they moved back to Cache Valley to be near family. Loy passed away May 17, 2000.
Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Dennis Loy (Barbara) Leishman of Logan and Clyde H. Leishman of Mendon. She has seven grandsons, 7 great grandsons and 5 great granddaughters. She is also survived by one brother, Glenn Hiibner of Mendon. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and seven of her siblings, Odie Hiibner Muir, Frona Hiibner, Luetta Hiibner Housley, Wayne Hiibner, Vira Hiibner Stuart, Okey Hiibner, and Calvin Hiibner. The family would like to thank the staff at Rocky Mountain Care and Hospice for their love, care and kindness in taking care of our mother and grandmother during her stay with them. We especially appreciate the gentleness and kindness they showed us during her final days.
A viewing will be held at Allen-Hall Mortuary on Thursday, January 25, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with funeral services to begin at 11:00 at Allen-Hall Mortuary. Burial in the Mendon City Cemetery. Condolences and memories may be shared online at
