Dorothy Daines Miller died Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the family home. She was born on November 2, 1921 in Hyde Park Utah to Joseph Benjamin Daines and Martha Elenora Hansen. She was the sister of 10 brothers and 4 sisters.
In early childhood she suffered two lengthy battles with rheumatic fever that left a hole in her heart. By the age of four she had spent half of her childhood in bed. Many times she was not expected to live through the night. Eventually she completed her education and graduated as valedictorian from Logan High.
She married LaVell Miller in the Logan Temple on June 25, 1941. While he was serving in World War II she attended USU. During this time she became bedridden with a then untreatable spinal illness. From then until last Sunday she endured difficult daily pain and paralysis. In order to raise her family, flowers and serve others she had to battle every morning to get her legs and arms to move.
Upon graduating as the valedictorian of her college class she began teaching at the Adams School in Logan and LaVell returned from the war. She taught and worked side by side with him in their large poultry business and later growing acres of pole beans for DelMonte.
Seven children were born to them. David D. Miller (Geniel Tingey), Douglas C. Miller (Marti Amusssen), Marianne (Marvin Nielson), Delmar J. Miller (died in infancy), Lauralee (Chris Christensen), Don L. Miller (Korine Bassett) , Myrna (Steve Young).
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, two grandsons, her parents and many brothers and sisters.
Her love of learning and talent to teach prepared her for the many unique personal and political problems on her ninety-one year life span. Her physical limitations turned her to her Heavenly Father. Humble of heart, those who knew her felt her total acceptance of them.
Funeral services will take place at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 9th, 2013 at the North Logan Stake Center, 2750 North 800 East.
