Dorothy Pollard

September 26, 1911 — June 26, 2009

LOGAN, UTAH – Dorothy Pollard died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, June 26, 2009. She was born September 26, 1911 in San Luis Obispo, California to Chester and Eva Belle Rubel. She was born a twin, and she and her brother Donald were raised in Berkeley, California.
Dorothy graduated from the University of California at Berkeley and obtained her master's degree from Mills College in Oakland, California. Her master's degree was in home economics and she later used what she had learned when, in her basement, she started creating and selling "Dorothy Pollard's Chocolates".
Dorothy met Leonard Pollard when they were both teaching at the Agricultural College in Davis, California. They married in 1938 and later moved to Logan when Leonard took a teaching position at Utah State Agricultural College. With the exception of years spent in Iran, first with a USAC-sponsored program and later with a Research and Development corporation, the Pollards lived in Logan. Leonard preceded Dorothy in death in 1998.
Dorothy enjoyed working with many groups including the University Wives, the Lady Lions and the Girl Scouts. She worked to establish the Sigma Kappa sorority on the Utah State campus. She also enjoyed being with friends in Bridge Club, Clio and Belletrist.
Her family appreciated her efforts with her beautiful garden and flower arrangements, her lovely home and her incredible cooking.
Dorothy has three surviving children: Marilyn Griffin and her husband Clair (Logan); Joyce Campbell (Salt lake City); Howard and his wife Sybil (Albuquerque, New Mexico). A son, Lorin, died in 1962. Dorothy is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday July 4, 2009 at the Logan Ninth Ward (125 East 500 North). A viewing will be held at the same location from 10-11:30 am. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery on Monday, July 6 at 9:30 am. Condolences and thoughts may be expressed to the family online at www.allenmortuaries.net .
