LOGAN, UTAH: Dorothy Jeanette Cowley Kearl passed away peacefully on July 29, 2007 of natural causes.
She was born on October 7, 1919 to John William Cowley Jr. and Ella Mae Richards in Logan, Utah. She was raised in a happy and loving home surrounded by close family, including three sisters, Helen Snow(D)(Cluff(D)), Sheryl Clark (D) and Renee” Hendricks (Tal). She attended Logan High School and Utah State University. She was a member of the ROTC Sponsors at USU and active in her faith. She met Leonard C. Kearl in 1939 and they have been inseparable throughout their four-year courtship and since their marriage in June of 1942. When asked how long they dated, Leonard said “we still are”. Together, they experienced World War II, raising a son and a daughter, homesteading a farm in Idaho, building and running a business in Logan, a mission in Haiti and Jamaica and several civic and church positions, to include the Red Cross, Relief Society, North Logan Planning and Zoning Board. Together they have visited over 68 countries throughout the world. Throughout it all, Dorothy’s strength, will and sense of humor carried the day.
Dorothy is survived by the love of her life, Leonard, her son Leonard C. Kearl, Jr. “Korky” (Elaine) and her daughter, Elizabeth “Tizzy” Dunsey (Ron). She has 5 grandchildren, Jeane, Jay (Jackie), Katie, Chris (Mary) and Lindsey. She has 9 great-grandchildren with 2 more expected by the end of the year. A sister, Renee Hendricks (Tal) and her 4-legged friend, Westie, survive her as well.
Services will be held for close friends and family at the Allen-Hall Mortuary on Wednesday, August 1, at 11:00 am with a graveside service at 12:00 pm to be held immediately following at the Logan Cemetery. Please neither gifts nor flowers. Condolences may be sent to the family at
