LOGAN, UTAH: Dorothy Katherine Francis Szudarski Florek of Logan, Utah died Saturday, December 27, 2008. She was born May 23, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois, and lived in the Chicago area most of her 86 years. Her parents emigrated from Poland and Germany. She married Henry Andrew Florek January 12, 1943. They had three daughters, Leecia Ann, Lois Kathleen and Linda Jean. She was preceded in death by her husband, and her daughters Linda Jones and Lois Hjort.
In 2003 she moved to St Joseph, Mo to be near her daughter, Leecia Bloss, who survives, and moved with Leecia and her husband Wally Bloss to Logan in 2005.
She is also survived by her grandson Jason Birr of Euless TX, granddaughter Kira Birr of St. Joseph, Mo, and granddaughter Lindsay Jones of Lockport, Illinois, who she reared after the death of her daughter Linda, and great grandchildren Autumn River George and Jacob Blue Alexander Seward of St. Joseph, Mo.
She spent Christmas day with her daughter and son in law, and talked with all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had contracted Parkinson’s disease, and was frustrated at its hold on her body. She had a keen mind and sharp wit, and will be missed by all including her parakeet, Logan.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date at Williamsburg Retirement Community by Pastor Paul Heins of First Presbyterian Church. Her body has been cremated, and she will be interred with her husband in Dundee, Illinois in the spring.
