Dorrel M. Kohler
Dorrel M. Kohler, 95, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2012, after a short illness. He was born May 30, 1917 in Providence, Utah, the son of Simeon and Rosa Kohler.
He attended South Cache High School where he was very active in athletics.
While he was at South Cache, he met his wife of 62 years, Eleanor Ashliman Kohler (deceased, 2001). They were married Sept. 27, 1939 in the Logan LDS Temple and made their home in North Logan, Utah.
Dorrel was a lifelong builder who learned bricklaying skills from his father during his teenage years.
He worked as a bricklayer and masonry contractor for many years. He accomplished the brickwork on the North Logan 1st Ward and Cove LDS chapels. He did the masonry work on the Budge clinic Building, and on countless homes in the Cache Valley area. Later he worked as a mason and carpenter in the physical plant at USU.
Dorrel liked hunting, fishing and going for rides, especially on roads that were new to him. He liked to play and to watch ball games, particularly baseball and basketball. Dorrel had a large shop and was a skilled and creative woodworker.
Dorrel was an active member of the LDS Church. He most recently served for many years as a temple worker.
He is survived by his five children: Douglas (SueZann), Provo, Utah; Steven (Nancy), Missoula, Montana; Mike (Juanita), North Logan, Utah; Wallace (Pat), North Logan, Utah; Daniel (Denise), Salt Lake City, Utah; 16 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and a brother Reuel (Delores).
Funeral services will be held in the North Logan 10th Ward Chapel, 1550 E. 1900 N., on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at 12:00 noon. Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Allen Mortuary, 420 E. 1880 N. in North Logan; and at the Chapel on Saturday, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to services.
Interment will be in the Providence City Cemetery.
