Dorthy Lloyd

September 18, 1926 — July 8, 2016

Dorthy Aileen Olsen Lloyd, 89, passed away at home in Bountiful, Utah on Friday, July 8, 2016. She was born September 18, 1926 at her grandmother’s home in Providence, Utah. She was the oldest child of Bert W. and Dora Fuhriman Olsen. She grew up working on her father’s dairy farm in Young Ward, Utah with her siblings Rex, Ervin, Joan (Young), EloDean (Herzog), Harlow “Butch”, and Linda (Montano).
Dorthy graduated from South Cache High School, Class of 1944. She worked for the Department of Defense in Ogden, Utah and Washington, DC and later at Utah State University. She enjoyed snow and water skiing and played on a minor league women’s softball team during WW II.
In June of 1954 she served in the Great Lakes Mission. In the mission home, she met Elder Norman Lloyd. They were married on November 19, 1958 in the Logan Temple.
Dorthy and Norm spent most of their married life in Young Ward and raised their five children there. Once her children were in school, she returned to work at USU until she retired in 1992. They later served two missions together in Chile. She enjoyed serving in her church callings which included Scouting, Primary, Relief Society, missionary and temple work. Of all of her accomplishments, she was most proud of her family. She taught us to work hard, serve quietly, be honest, and accept and love everyone no matter what.
Dorthy is survived by Norm, her husband of 57 years, her children Susan Jellum, Nancy (Frank) Chavez, Jan (Rick) Cook, Jason (Allison) Lloyd, and Matthew Lloyd, 19 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.
