DR. DEAN O. PORTER passed away at the age of 88, on the 23rd of September 2007 in Santa Cruz , California after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis and peripheral artery disease. Dean was born in Logan, Utah on March 21, 1919, the second son of Dr. Ralph Orlando Porter and Vivian Ericson. He married his Logan High School sweetheart, Eleanor Hatch Parkinson, on 21 March 1941. Following bachelor degree courses at USU, he studied dentistry at the University of Southern California, served in stateside hospitals as a first lieutenant in the Army during WWII, and then finished his DDS degree at Northwestern University in 1947. He was recommended by the office of the Utah Governor to serve as one of the Utah State Board of Dental Examiners, an appointment he filled for five years. Dr. Porter served on the USU Alumni Council and USU Alumni board of directors and on the Logan Golf and Country Club board of directors, and actively participated in the Logan Lion’s Club for many years. He is preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor, and by his brothers, Ralph, Alan, and Van. Surviving family members include his brother, Gordon Eric Porter and wife Lorraine, of Tucson, Arizona, his son Robert Dean Porter of Corralitos, California, his daughter Gloria Eleanor Pope and husband Charles, of Santa Cruz, California, and his five grandchildren.
