Duane Hall

WELLSVILLE, UTAH - - Duane Hill Hall, 76, a lifetime resident of Wellsville passed away peacefully of congestive heart failure at his home on Saturday, February 21 after a long illness. He was born on December 12, 1932, the son of James Owen and Agnes Effie Hill Hall at the family home in Wellsville. He was the oldest by five minutes of twin boys who were called Pete and Repeat by Dr. Christensen. He grew up during the Great Depression and World War II working on the family farm, helping to support the family. He loved farming and worked for his brother Grant on his farm as well as taking over the family farm, where he built the log home in which he resided until his death.
He attended the public schools of Wellsville and graduated from South Cache High School. He also attended Utah State University and Weber State University studying agricultural economics and police science. He was actively involved in civic and community affairs, serving two years as the Wellsville City marshal and eight years as a charter member ofthe Wellsville Volunteer Fire Department. For thirty years he served as the secretary/treasurer of the East Field Irrigation Company, a position also filled by his great grandfather Samuel Parley Hall in the early twentieth-century. He was also a member of the Utah Wildlife Federation and served as a director ofthe Northern Utah District for seventeen years, where he worked to further the interests of area sportsmen and the development of sound management policies for wildlife resources in the state. He also served as a Utah delegate to a national conference on controlling air pollution.
In his employment at Thiokol from 1959 until his retirement in 1992, he worked in a number of responsible supervisory and managerial positions in the Transportation area. He received numerous advancements and awards, not only for his excellent work accomplishments, but also for his numerous suggestions for improvements in efficiency, cost savings, and productivity.
He was a high priest in the LDS Church where he served as a faithful home teacher. He also served many years in the scouting program as cub scout den leader and pack master and as assistant scoutmaster, scoutmaster, explorer advisor, and troop committee member over finances and as chairman. His service enabled numerous young men to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, an honor he himself achieved as a youth, along with five of his seven brothers.
Duane enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling with family and friends, and made
nearly annual trips to Yellowstone Park. He especially enjoyed traveling to attend the meetings ofthe Utah Wildlife Federation at various scenic spots in the state, taking his family with him to enjoy such places as Lake Powell, Flaming Gorge, Joe's Valley, and other areas in scenic Utah.
Duane married Marilyn Marie Nielsen of Paradise on October 31, 1952 in Wellsville and was sealed to her in the Logan Temple on October 31, 1955. Shortly after their marriage, Duane was drafted into the United States Army, where he served a tour of duty as the Chief Classified File Clerk in the Ordinance Section at the Headquarters of the 7th Army in Stuttgart, Germany. Following his service he became affiliated with the Amvets organization as a member and officer.
Duane and Marilyn had four children, Michael Duane, born Dec 7, 1956 and died June 17 1994; Mitchell Hall (stillborn), March 3, 1958, and Cindy Hall, born May 28, 1959, who died shortly after birth. On July 14, 1970, they adopted Kimberly Nielsen Hall. She married Jeffrey Bagley and had a son Jesse. After they were divorced, Kimberly married Dale Hamson and gave birth to their daughter, Alexandria Elizabeth Hamson. The grandchildren have lived much of the time with Duane and Marilyn.
Duane is survived by his wife Marilyn; Kimberly (Dale) Hamson; grandchildren, Jesse Bagley and Alexandria Hamson; step-granchildren, Tracee Tillotson, Bradley Hamson and Lindsee Hamson; great grandchildren, Gracee and Bailee Tillotson and Braxton Hamson; twin brother, Blaine (Carol) Hall, Orem, Utah; three sisters-in-law: Florence L. Hall, Millville, Coy Hall Eliason and Florence W. Hall, Logan, and many neices and nephews. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Lynn (Bonnie) Nielsen, Hyrum; Boyd (Shelia) Nielsen, Brigham City; Wesley (Debra) Nielsen, Providence; and Danny (Diane) Nielsen, Wellslville. He was preceded in death by three children, his parents, parents-inlaw, grandparents, and five brothers, Owen, Grant, Eldon, La Verl and Darl, and a sisterin-law, Shirley J. Hall..
Funeral services will be held in the Wellsville 4th Ward Chapel, 195 South Center Street, at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, February 28. There will be viewings from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, February 27 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center St in Logan, and from 10:30 to 11 :30 a.m. at the church on Saturday prior to the funeral.
