Duane Boyce Labrum

March 25, 1941 — November 6, 2013

Duane Boyce Labrum, 72 of Hyrum died November 6, 2013, leaving a legacy as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be remembered for his faith in Jesus Christ and his great love for his family and his many friends.
Duane was born March 25, 1941 to Ivan Boyce and Ann Nichols Labrum. He was the oldest of 8 children, and spent his early years being raised on a farm in Bennion, Utah. Duane graduated from Granger High School and then served a Mission in Scotland for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. Upon his return he married his high-school sweetheart, Kaye Stanley in the Logan Temple on April 11, 1963 and together they raised their six children, Melanie, DeVon, Glenn, Heidi, Ryan and Cindy.
Farming was a great love of Duane's and in 1966 he moved to Lewiston where he owned and operated a dairy farm along with his brothers. In 1985 they relocated to Glenns Ferry, Id. where they lived and farmed for the next 15 years. In 2000 they moved back to Utah and spent seven years in Lehi. Duane and Kaye always planned to serve a mission together and were called and served in Colorado Springs, Colorado. When they returned, they made their home in Cache Valley and settled in Hyrum.
Duane had a great love for animals and especially horses. His favorite pastime was hooking up his ponies and cart to take his grandchildren and neighborhood kids on rides. He also loved sports and enjoyed playing softball and basketball throughout his life. Even more than that he enjoyed watching and cheering for all his grandchildren and was a fixture on bleachers wherever they were playing.
As a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Duane served faithfully in various callings throughout his life, including five and a half years as Bishop of the Willow Park Ward in Lehi. He was currently serving as an ordinance worker in the Logan Temple. He lived a life of sacrifice and service and he truly loved everyone, especially his sweetheart Kaye. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Kaye, daughter Melanie (Brent) Westover of Kennewick, Washington, son DeVon (Lee) of Millville, Utah, son Glenn (Inger) of St. George, Utah, daughter Heidi (Duncan) Farris of Kuna, Idaho, son Ryan (Jennifer) of St. George, Utah, daughter Cindy (Bryan) Hillstead of Palestine, Texas; 30 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grand-daughter Anniston Hillstead and brother Michael.
Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, November 11, in the Hyrum 10th Ward chapel, 111 North 400 West in Hyrum. A viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center in Logan, and from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral.
