Dwight Nielsen

May 24, 1951 — July 3, 2024

Dwight Seth Nielsen returned to his heavenly home Wednesday July 3, 2024. His heart failed him which ultimately caused catastrophic brain failure.

He was born May 24, 1951 to the parents of Easton Henry Nielsen (Ham) and Juanita Dustin Nielsen (Nita). He grew up and lived his teenage years in Hyrum and then moved to Logan in 1976. Dwight started working from a young age. His mom would make fishing flys, and it was his job to take them to local businesses to be sold. He saved the money he earned from that job to buy a pair of cowboy boots.

He graduated High School from Sky View High in 1969. He enjoyed singing in the school choir. He loved cars and bought a purple barracuda.

He went on to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints in the North New Zealand mission, Mouri speaking. He loved the people he served. He loved the Kiwi Burgers they made there and continued to make them at home for his kids.

He came home from his mission, and met the love of his life Wendy Hammond in January of 1978. They dated and talked over the CB Radio, it was the cool thing to do. Dwight’s handle was spook, Wendy’s handle was trouble. They were engaged just 3 short months later on the 8th of March. They were sealed for time and all eternity just another 3 short months later in the Ogden Utah temple on June 9th, 1978.

As newlyweds they lived in Millville and then an apartment in Logan where they welcomed their first daughter Heidi. They moved to Richmond where they lived for 21 years and welcomed another daughter Alyce and two sons Tyler and Skyler. While living in Richmond Dwight traded in his purple Plymouth Barracuda for a Black Dodge Aspen RT. He moved his family to Logan in 2001.

He worked at Gossner’s, Western General Dairy, Pepperidge Farm, Thiokol and Morton/Autoliv where he retired from in May of 2015.

He loved his family and grandkids. He liked to make up songs for his kids. One of his favorite songs he made up was one for his girls when they weren’t getting along. “Two sisters lovins, lovin as can be, I love my sister and she loves me.”

He played in a few bowling leagues and won a couple of tournaments. He enjoyed golfing and spending time on the driving range. He liked to tinker with things to find out how they worked or if he could fix them, especially bycicles and lawnmowers. He especially enjoyed collecting model trains, hot wheels and altering some hot wheels to make his own custom collection. He enjoyed fishing and was good at it.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Easton and Juanita (Dustin) Nielsen, Father and Mother in-law Ervin Hammond and Aloma (Johnson) Hammond. Brother Ross Neilsen, Sister in-law Evette Shaw and his best friend Gregory Neilsen.

He is survived by his wife Wendy Nielsen of logan, Brother Howard (Annette) Nielsen of Pleasant View and his sister in-law Cherrill Nielsen of Pleasant View. His four children Heidi of Logan, Alyce of Logan, Tyler (Jessica) of Providence, Skyler (Amber) of Smithfield. Five Grandchildren, Malachi, Destiny, Ezra, Wyatt, Henley. And Sister in-law Shawna (Doug) Johnson of Nibley, Brother in-Law Kurt (Alice) Hammond of Evanston and lots of nieces and nephews.
