Earl Reed “Scotty” Parker
Hyrum, Ut
Reed, our loving husband, father, and grandfather, returned to our Heavenly Father on March 16, 2012.
He was born in Wellsville Utah on October 2, 1926 to Earl J. and Margaret Parker. He grew up on the family farm with siblings, Idella, Anna, Boyd and Pauline, spending summers in Young Ward and winters in Wellsville. He attended school at Wellsville Elementary and South Cache High School. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1945, and spent his service in the Pacific Theater as part of the occupational forces in Japan.
Reed and Janice Murray were married on May 5, 1954 in Wellsville, and were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. They were the parents of six children. They lived in various locations, traveling as a family wherever dad worked in the construction industry. They built a home and settled in Hyrum in 1964. Dad then worked for Tri-Miller Packing and later Hyrum City.
Dad served in many capacities as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved being Dance Director, a faithful Home Teacher, serving as a counselor in two Bishipbrics and as a Stake and Ward Missionary.
Our parents created a wonderful, loving home where everyone was welcome and was often filled with family and friends. Dad not only taught us to work hard, but to play hard as well. Dad loved horses and enjoyed membership in the Hyrum Saddle Club over the years. Riding in the beautiful Cache Valley mountains with friends and family were some of his happiest memories. His hunting outings with his sons were always a highlight in his life. Traveling with mom over the years, they were able to achieve their goal of visiting all 50 states.
We will miss his physical presence, but will feel his spirit and guidance forever. His legacy is one of loving service to God, his family, country and community.
Reed is survived by his loving wife Janice and their six children; Susan (Jeff) McBurney, Brent (Becky) Parker, Kim (Marla) Parker, Janet (Tim) Maurer, Steve (Tina) Parker and Travis (Tracee) Parker; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Anna, son-in-law Stan Nilson and two grandsons.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday March 20, 2012 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Logan, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and prior to the service on Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30. Funeral services will be held at the Hyrum 9th Ward building 455 East 100 South Hyrum Utah, at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be held at the Wellsville City Cemetery, with Military Honors, following the services.
