Edgar Ralf Lewandowski, 80, passed away peacefully in his home in Logan, Utah on September 11, 2018, after a courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia. Edgar was born on August 23, 1938, in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, the youngest child of Viktor Lewandowski and Maria Theresia Schumacher. It was in his hometown of Gelsenkirchen that Edgar met the love of his life, Christel Helene Buschatz. They were engaged to be married shortly before Edgar departed for the United States in 1959 aboard the M.S. Berlin. Christel followed him in 1960 and they were married on August 19, 1960 in a cabin in Logan Canyon before being sealed for time and eternity in the Logan Temple. Together, they resided in Logan, where Edgar worked and attended Utah State University until his graduation in 1965. Edgar’s graduate education took him to the University of Washington in Seattle and later to the University of California – Riverside where he worked as the director of the university’s German house. In 1972, Edgar and Christel returned to Logan, where Edgar initially worked at S.E. Needham Jewelers and then at the Logan Temple, where he spent over 25 years before retiring as head engineer in 2005. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints since his conversion to the church in 1958 and he baptized Christel into the church in 1960. Edgar greatly valued time with his family and enjoyed photography, gardening, the outdoors and music. He will be fondly remembered by his family as an honest and hardworking man, a devoted spouse and loving father and grandfather. Edgar is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Christel; his sister Ruth Naumann (Gelsenkirchen, Germany); three children, Michelle (Logan, UT), Angela (Boise, ID) and Edgar John and wife Melanie (Chappaqua, NY); three grandchildren, Jordan (Salt Lake City, UT), Whitney (Chappaqua, NY) and Roman (Chappaqua, NY) and extended family in Germany and Canada.
