At church she also enjoyed teaching classes, and was a speaker at firesides, various church educational meetings and programs. Her mission to Western Canada was a highlight in her life and she shared that enthusiasm for missionary work with letters and financial support to many others. She loved doing temple work and attended regularly.

The students in the College of Family Life voted her as "Teacher of the Year" the first year it was instituted and again a few years later. She enjoyed traveling in the United States, Canada, Australia, South Pacific Islands, Ethiopia, Alaska, and Norway.
She married Francis (Frank) Hawkes Gunnell in the Salt Lake Temple December 1978.
He died December 1993. This marriage included 7 stepchildren with grandchildren and great grandchildren to enjoy.
Survivors include her sister Afton N. Bateman (Ken), Salt Lake City, UT. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Marjorie N. Hill, and brothers Kenneth and Rodney Nyman.
