Ed Howard, 89, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025, in Logan, Utah. He was born on May 19, 1935, to Edward Irving and Gladys Howard in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Ed was a cheerful boy who proudly shared a paper route with his brothers and helped out on the family’s farm and orchard. He was always hardworking and deeply dedicated to those around him.
On April 24, 1956, Ed joined the U.S. Army, serving until April 24, 1958, as part of the 141st Signal Battalion, Old Ironsides, at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He worked in fixed station radio equipment and operations. He cherished his time in the Army and loved to share stories—especially the tank ones.
A man of many talents, Ed had a deep love for music. He played the trumpet and enjoyed listening to bluegrass with his late son, Russell. Over the years, he held many jobs: from working at a printing press, to IBM, and later as a skilled handyman known for his beautiful tile work.
Ed never met a stranger. He could talk to anyone and made many friends throughout his life. One of his favorite sayings was, “Just say yes dear to your wife”—always followed by a laugh and the promise that it would solve all marital problems.
He is survived by his loving wife, Suzan R. Howard; children Glenn (George) Howard, Garry (Tracy) Howard, Ray Reitz, Heather (Randy)Anderson, and Steven (Dani) Kresie. He is also survived by his former wife, Edwina Green; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and siblings Bill Howard, Jimmy Howard and Sister Lynn Howard.
He was preceded in death by two of his children, Russell Howard and Valerie Lovegrove and Brother Gregory Howard.
A viewing will be held Friday morning, April 18th, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street. Interment will take place at the Providence City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Ed would love it if you would send a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Susan G. Komen Foundation in support of breast cancer research—both causes close to his heart.
