Edward Shumway Johnson, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather returned peacefully to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at home surrounded by his family. Edward was born October 5, 1925. He was the sixth son born to Seth Ira and Dagmar Shumway Johnson. He also had two younger sisters. He moved around a lot when he was young because of his father’s work. He spent time in Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah.
He married Irene Jones on September 30, 1949, at Red Lodge, Montana. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They raised nine children: Edward Stephen (Robba Lee) of Layton, UT, Vivian Irene of Richmond, UT, Leslie Carole of Holladay, UT, Lillian Marie (Ernest Rand Tripp) of Richmond, UT, Evelyn Lynn (Richard Nelson) of Hamer, ID, Lori Lorine, Colleen , Robert, and Phillip (Kammy) of Richmond, UT. They have twenty-five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Irene, his nine children, twenty-five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, two sisters, seven sisters-in-law, and two brothers-in-law. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, five brothers, father and mother-in-law, six brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, and one great grandson.
Edward was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many of the auxiliaries. He especially enjoyed teaching the youth. He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with his family and supported them in whatever they were doing. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Weber State College, June 1972, at the age of 47. He was going to teach history and English but instead became a financial aid officer where he enjoyed his interaction with the students. He loved history and enjoyed watching the senate and congress on TV after he retired telling his family it was history in the making.
Services will be held at the Richmond Second Ward Chapel, 150 S 100 E, Richmond, UT, at 12:00 pm on Saturday, December 18, 2010. A viewing will be held from 10:30 am to 11:45 am on Saturday, December 18, 2010. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either Intermountain Hospice, Perpetual Education fund, Humanitarian Aid fund, or the Missionary fund.
