Edwin G. Pyle

Edwin Guy Pyle passed away February 12th at the age of 89. He was born in Logan Utah to Guy Everett Pyle and Anna Matilda Thompson Pyle on June 20th 1923. He was the youngest of 6 children and learned at a very early age the value of hard work and saving for the things he needed and wanted. Ed attended school in Logan and Hyrum graduating from South Cache in 1941. He then moved to California to work for his oldest brother Everett as a auto mechanic. On March 6th 1943 he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in San Diego CA 461 squadron. He was deployed to various places. At Camp Pendleton he trained to be a tank driver. Ed was shipped overseas to Japan. He had a stop over in Hawaii and that’s when the atomic bomb was dropped. He was given a discharge shortly after then he re-enlisted in the Reserves in Aviation Ordinance. When the Korean war broke out he was called back in the 1st invasion of Inchon where he had many close calls and was injured. They sent him on an invasion at Won Son. He had several action encounters there, he was later sent to Japan for treatment and recuperation. He was there for 3 months and returned to California and was discharged. Ed received many metals for his service and actions. He was a Staff Sergeant when he discharged. Ed was a very good mechanic and made his living in CA as an auto mechanic after his service. He ran a Texaco station for 3 years in CA before working for Chrysler in Huntington Beach CA. He married Lavern Jones on May 4th 1945 they made their home in CA. They had 2 children a son and a daughter. Laverne passed away in 1984 and Ed retired to move back to Hyrum Utah to be close to his Daughter and grandchildren. His son and family moved to Hyrum many years later. He met his wife Arlene Griffin in 1989 and they were married one year later. Arlene and Ed loved to travel the world together. They went to Korea, Hong Kong, China, Mexico, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. They also enjoyed traveling in their motor home and visited much of our beautiful country. Ed loved to fish and hunt, he enjoyed camping and being outdoors. Ed joined the LDS church in 2005 while living in Hyrum. In 2006 he and Arlene moved into a home in Spring Haven Adult Community where they have enjoyed their friends and neighbors. Ed had a kind heart and a wonderful spirit he was always willing to help. He enjoyed life to its fullness. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Everett, Neil, Archie, Juanita and Leona. His wife Arlene, his son Kenneth, his wife Gaylene and their 2 children Shawn and Shannon; Also his daughter Cindy, her husband Bob and her 2 children Lisa and Travis survive him. Ed also has 3 stepchildren Kathleen, Marlene and Glenn. He has 4 grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and 14 step great grandchildren. His entire family from both sided loved him dearly and he was so proud and happy to have them in his life. He loved all of the equally. By Ed’s request he was cremated and his ashes to be scattered on Mt Logan where he like to hunt with his father and brothers. There will be a family memorial service held at a later date. Arlene and the family wishes to thank everyone for their thoughts of kindness at this difficult time.
