Eileen C. Stocking

Eileen Condie Stocking left this life peacefully on September 11, 2012 at the Williamsburg Retirement Community in Logan Utah in the company of her husband and daughter Kathryn.
Eileen Condie Stocking was born 14 August 1926 in the humble home on the farm of Gideon and Carrie Christina Clausen Condie, North and East of Preston, Idaho in the community known as Egypt. The name of Egypt resulted from the fact that in a drought year it was the only community in that area where there was a harvest of wheat. She was born of goodly parents and had a pleasant childhood in the family home on the family farm. She was the number 7 in a family of 7 children.
The Condie home was near her maternal grandparents home where she relished the sunken garden near the Clausen family home where her mother was reared. She remembers spending many pleasant hours with her grandmother and aunts and uncle in the home and the sunken garden nearby.
The Condie family farm supplied childhood and teen-age memories galore. There was the small reservoir on the farm where swimming and skating were pleasant pastimes for the Condie and neighborhood kids
She had a rather normal childhood growing up on a farm. Among many other remembrances she remembers riding Old Soldier, the derrick horse, as she assisted stacking alfalfa hay with the old derrick. She remembers having her hands pecked by hens as she was collecting eggs from the henhouse. And she remembers the large garden her father raised and shared with the whole community. She attended school in and around Preston. She graduated from the Preston High School and went on to attend college in Pocatello (as was the family tradition) where she achieved an associate degree in accounting. Her expertise was used by a few small businesses and in the private home business over the years. It was at Pocatello where she met, and later married, John A. Stocking, a Naval Aviation Cadet. He was from the rival school of Burley, Idaho. They attended a State Championship High School basketball game in Pocatello between Preston and Burley, and to her delight, Preston won the game. They were married 25 June 1946 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, shortly after that temple was dedicated.
She had many opportunities to work outside the home, but chose to follow the admonitions of the LDS church brethren and remain in the home as a full time Mom. Her chief occupation and her main concern were her children. She did help in the rush at the USU college book store at the beginning of the semesters mostly, as a diversion from the routine of housework, but declined the many requests to serve full time in the bookstore.
Eileen and John lived in 11 different homes in the first 7 years of their marriage after which they built a home in North Logan and have lived there for the past 50 plus years. Before coming to North Logan they had lived in Burley, Idaho, Logan, Utah, Huntley, Montana, and Menan, Idaho. Eileen made many friends in each and every community
Eileen was an active member in the LDS church where she served as Junior Sunday School Coordinator in multiple Relief Society presidencies and in Young Women’s presidencies interspersed with teaching assignments in various callings along the way. She served as an officiator in the Logan Temple for about 9 years and she also served in the Logan Family History Center. She was an avid genealogist and became very adept in tracing her Danish family lines.
Eileen and John were very fond of dancing. They joined in several groups to square dance and enjoyed those associations for many years. They also were dance directors in the Ward and enjoyed teaching dancing and going to the dance festivals to watch their kids perform.
Eileen is the mother of five children; Deon (Jack) Pate of Provo, Utah, Burdette (LuAnn) Stocking of North Logan, Kathryn (Michael) Abbott of Richmond, Utah, Larry Condie (Miriam) Stocking of Eagle, Idaho and Amy (Randy) Siddoway of Boise, Idaho. She grandmother of 27 grandchildren and great grandmother of soon to be 29 (and counting) great grandchildren.
Eileen was an excellent seamstress, making most of the clothes her children wore when they were young, and many of her own clothes. She loved her flowers. She was particularly fond of her peonies and snap dragons growing by the driveway in the front yard and she helped grow and utilize a large and productive vegetable garden.
Eileen was a master of the art of worrying. She always worried if there would be enough food at celebrations, if everyone was having a good time, and if everyone had a place to sleep. This is just an outward symptom of her love and concern for all.
She was a friend to everyone. She has been greeted in heaven by her mother and father and her siblings and their spouses, all of whom have preceded her in death
If she could she would express, with her family, thanks to the many friends she has known over the years.
The family wishes to thank AFI Hospice and the nursing home staffs who took wonderful care of her in her last few months of life. She had excellent care by many wonderful and caring people.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 15, 2012 in the North Logan 10th Ward Chapel, 1550 East 1900 North with Bishop Grant Cardon, conducting. A viewing will be held on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Allen Mortuary, 420 East 1800 North, North Logan and at the Church on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services.
