Sarah Elaine McKenna Allred was born on 30 April 1935 in Leota, Utah. She was the third child and second daughter of Gilbert and Almeda McKenna. Elaine returned to her Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ, on 27 August 2024. Her family surrounded her as we bade a tender farewell, “Until we meet again.”

Elaine spent her growing up years in Roosevelt, Utah and Arizona. She went to high school in Roosevelt and, upon graduating in 1953, she met and then married Aral Wesley Allred on 26 December of that year. They immediately moved to Farmington, New Mexico where Aral worked in the oilfield. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on 19 November 1956.

During their 67-year marriage, Elaine and Aral had six children, three boys and three girls. They lived in Farmington, New Mexico; Chalmette, Jeanerette, and New Iberia, Louisiana; Mogadishu, Somalia; Benghazi and Tripoli, Libya; Naxxar, Malta; Randlett and Vernal, Utah; Dillon, Montana; Casper, Wyoming; and Hyde Park and North Logan, Utah. Elaine was a devoted and beloved wife and our perfect, angel mother and cherished friend. She set an example of love and service in our family, especially as she cared for Nathan, her special needs son for all of his 42 years, and her husband when he developed dementia in the last few years of his life. Elaine was devoted to her family; we always came first with her.

Elaine had an infectious laugh and a wonderful sense of humor. She was a very curious person who loved to learn and explore. She and Aral loved to travel and introduced their children to different countries, traditions, and peoples. When she took her three young children to Somalia – knowing Aral would be waiting as they stepped off the plane – she felt no fear and during her years overseas she took full advantage of experiencing the various cultures and seeing the sights. She hauled her children everywhere throughout her life! She loved taking road trips in the United States. We were always excited about this because we knew that wherever she went meant that the following year she and Aral would be taking the whole clan on the same trip to see and experience all they had. She took all of her 15 grandchildren back East to Washington, DC; Philadelphia; Gettysburg; Amish Country; Virginia; and sometimes New York City, so they could learn about our nation’s history and deepen their knowledge and love of our great country. We had so many incredible experiences with her and have the most wonderful memories.

Elaine treated and accepted others with love and kindness as she knew we were all beloved children of God. She loved serving others in the community and congregation. She was a faithful, lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings over the years. She especially loved being a visiting teacher/ministering sister. She loved reading and studying the scriptures, especially the Book of Mormon, and attending the temple. During their overseas years, Elaine and Aral made sure we went to church every Sunday, even in our living room when we were the only members in the area.

Elaine is survived by four of her six children: Brett (Zell), Katherine McConkie (Carl), Elizabeth, and Margaret Smith (Dale); thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson; her sister LaJean Smith; and sisters-in-law Beth Brcko, Maxine Allred, and Kathy McKenna Cheney. She was preceded in death by her husband Aral, sons Douglas and Nathan, grandsons Michael Allred and Robert McConkie, parents, parents-in-law, two brothers, older sister, five sisters-in-law, and six brothers-in-law.

She is deeply mourned and will be greatly missed but her family anticipates finding her waiting for them on the other side of the veil. What a joyful day that will be!

We wish to thank Community Nursing Services for their compassionate and expert hospice care and all the excellent and caring medical professionals who attended her at IHC Logan Clinic and Logan Regional Hospital.
