LOGAN, UTAH: Elaine Hansen Covert, 82, passed away on July 9, 2014 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Al Burns. Elaine was born on February 16, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Henry Cleve and Melva Karren Hansen. Elaine grew up in Salt Lake City, Ogden and Logan, Utah. She loved to spend the summers in Lewiston, Utah at the home of her maternal grandparents and enjoyed being with her cousins. Elaine graduated from Logan High School in 1949. She met and fell in love with Glenn Coombs Covert. They were married on December 9, 1949 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, on the day of the first and worst blizzard of the year. After the wedding reception in Logan, the entire wedding party was snowed in at a friend’s house until the next day. Their first night as a married couple was spent with Elaine’s three younger brothers. It was a day that truly lives in infamy (and laughter) in our family. Glenn and Elaine went on to be blessed with seven children. Glenn and Elaine were each other’s best friends and together they created a legacy for all of us through a happy, secure and loving family life.
Elaine was a highly intelligent and loving woman whose first and most loved career was that of wife, mother and homemaker. After her family was raised, she worked in the Lab at Logan Regional Hospital for ten years, then went to work as a histologist with Utah State University in the Vet Science Lab. Elaine retired from there in 1999.
Elaine was an active and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings. She particularly loved the Relief Society sisters and her favorite calling was teaching Relief Society. Her testimony of the gospel and the Savior were precious to her.
Elaine is survived by her son-in-law, Robert (Cheryl, deceased) Suiter; daughters, Carolyn and Dan Livingston; Suzanne (Lewis, deceased) Hagerman; Laurie and Al Burns; a son, Jeffrey Glenn Covert, brothers, Boyd (Jeannie) Hansen, Douglas (Linda) Hansen and Richard (Coleen) Hansen; her dear-as-a-sister and life-long friend, Donette Southard; At the time of Elaine’s passing there are 30 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren (3 more on the way) and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by three children: Cheryl Lee, Thomas Cleve and Jan; her parents and her husband, Glenn.
