Elaine Zollinger

March 6, 1930 — July 23, 2013

Elaine "Grandma Z" Zollinger, 83, passed away Tuesday, July 23rd, 2013 at her home in College Ward.
Elaine was born March 6th, 1930 in Smithfield, Utah, to Wallace and Lilly Waite. Elaine grew up in Cache Valley and Carbon County. She met Melvin Sidney Zollinger after his service in World War II. Elaine spent her summers in Cache Valley and pumped gas at Roy's Service Station. Melvin asked her to a movie. Elaine was told Melvin had money, Melvin was told Elaine was a great cook. They both found out differently, but the two still quickly fell in love and were sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan LDS Temple on October 14, 1947. She then went on to spent the next 60 years on the Zollinger Dairy, working with Melvin and raising their children.
Elaine's greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren. She spent countless hours sewing quilts for weddings, crocheting baby blankets, and making beautiful needlepoint for her “teeny ones.” Elaine had the unique ability in making everyone feel like they were her favorite. She loved with all of her heart and had the most contagious smile and laugh. And she spent countless hours pitching balls to the local boys in her front yard.
Melvin and Elaine had seven children, 5 girls and 2 boys, they are: (twins) Jean (Paul ) Hibbard and Joy (Matthew) Larsen, Paula (Kim) Pitcher, Kathy (William) Fletcher, Sid (Jill) Zollinger, Jolynn Lambert (deceased) and Con (LaReen) Zollinger. They also raised their grandson, Miles Lambert, after his mother passed away. They have 32 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded by her husband, Melvin, her daughter, Jolynn Lambert, and a granddaughter, Amy Larsen.
A viewing will be held on Sunday Evening, July 28th, from 6:30-8:30 PM at Allen-Hall Mortuary. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00PM on Monday, July 29th in the College Ward Chapel with a viewing prior from 10 AM to 11:30 AM. Interment will be in the Hyrum City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net .
We, who knew Grandma Z, will miss the white haired lady on the John Deere lawn mower.
“I like to walk with Grandma,
she takes small steps like mine.
She never says "let's hurry-up!
she always takes her time.
I like to walk with Grandma,
her eyes see things like mine.
Shiny stones, a fluffy cloud,
stars at night that shine.
People rush their whole day through,
they rarely stop to see.
I'm glad that God made Grandmas
unrushed and young like me”
