LOGAN, Utah - Elda Lear Ferrin, 85, passed away Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at the Sunshine Terrace Care Center of natural causes due to age.
Elda was born on Jan. 29, 1923, in Logan, Utah. She was the third of four children born to Elmer Baugh Lear and Zillah Luella Reddish. She attended Logan City Schools and graduated from Logan Senior High in 1941.
Elda married David Arnold Ferrin on Aug. 1, 1958. The two were married in the Logan LDS Temple. They had three children together. Elda's children were her greatest joy in life, as were her three grandchildren later in life. David and Elda recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
She was a lifelong member of the LDS Church. Over the years she held many church positions, including: Stake mutual secretary, nursery leader, primary teacher and visiting teacher.
Throughout Elda's life she was always a hard worker. There was no stopping her. As a girl she picked raspberries in Providence. She went on to work as a seamstress, putting trim on dresses at Mode-O-Day.
When her children came along, she stopped working outside the home and devoted herself as a full-time mother. Being a mother meant everything to Elda. There was not anything she wouldn't do for her children.
Elda loved gardening and working outside. She was especially proud of her tulips, daffodils, peonies, irises and African Violets. In addition to flowers, she grew fruit and raspberries. She was an expert at home canning; she enjoyed making raspberry and apricot jams the most.
She was very talented at needle work and was rarely seen sitting down without something in her hands to do. Elda loved the simple pleasure of going for a drive or going for a walk.
Elda is survived by her husband, David A. Ferrin; one son, David L (Kay-Lynne) Ferrin; two daughters, LuAnn Ferrin and Rosalie (Morrell) McKinnon; three beloved grandchildren, Katie Marie McKinnon, Branden David Ferrin and Caden Jace Ferrin; and a brother-in-law, Emerson Powell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Burt and Clair Lear; and one sister, Wanda Powell.
Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday prior to services. All services will take place at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center Street, Logan. Interment will be in Logan City Cemetery directly following the funeral.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the loving care given to Elda by Dr. Huffman, the nurses and staff of the Sunshine Terrace Care Center.
