Elden Marven Curtis returned to the love of his life, Colleen on Friday March 13, 2015. Elden was born March 8, 1934 to Ruth Doull Hayball Curtis and Elmo Marven Curtis.
Dad enjoyed music while he was growing up and was an accomplished pianist through his high school years. He enlisted in the US Army around 1952. After discharge, he married his high school sweetheart, Colleen Smith in the Logan LDS Temple on May 5, 1955 and had 3 children. He received his masters degree at Utah State University in Music Education. Dad was hired as a music teacher with the Weber School District where he taught at Wahlquist Jr. High and T.H. Bell Jr. High. He retired after 34 years. He also taught piano lessons in Ogden and Logan. He enjoyed playing the harpsichord for the Messiah productions each year at the Ogden Tabernacle from the 60’s through the 90’s. He inspired, molded and changed so many lives with his love for music. He loved working with young people and was very active in the Boy Scouts and the Order of the Arrow and served on the High Council at a USU student ward. He enjoyed time with his family, hunting, and his dogs.
He was the conductor of the Towne Singers for 23 years. He always said Towne Singers were his “icing on the cake”. So many lives have been touched by my dad through the years and it can honestly be said that he “made a difference” in making the world a better place. His love of music will continue for generations through his children, and grandchildren. We will miss his quick wit, laughter, sense of humor, smile and his music.
He is survived by his daughter, Theresa Duncombe (Earl), Jeffrey Curtis (Terrie), and Mick Curtis, 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dean, granddaughter Theresa Curtis and his loving wife Colleen.
The family would like to thank the staff at Logan Rehab, Sunshine Terrace and Williamsburg Retirement Home for their loving, compassionate care of dad for the past few months.
