On Saturday May 17, 2014 our loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather Eldon Cooper, passed into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father.
Our family received a tender mercy as 5 generations, 27 family members gathered in his hospital room to be with him as he left his life here on earth. His dear wife of 68 years, Arlene, was able to hold his hand as she, and many other family members whispered their love and goodbyes into his ear during his final hours.
Eldon was born on June 23, 1925 to Heber and Nora Cooper. He was the 5th of 6 children. Eldon was born in Mt Sterling and lived in Mt Sterling his whole life.
He met his sweetheart Arlene, at a local church dance and that is where their courtship began. Eldon was drafted into the US Navy before finishing high school and Arlene waited patiently for his return. He was stationed on the USS Washington Battleship in the South Pacific. He served his country during WWII for over two years. Upon returning home, the two were married for time and all eternity in the Logan LDS temple on May 15, 1946.
They were blessed with three children. Lynn (April) Wellsville Ut, Nora Lee (Stephen) Hatch of College Station Tx, Clair (Julie) Mt. Sterling Ut. They have 15 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Eldon has always loved farming. He enjoyed being out on his tractor and watching the crops of hay and wheat come up. He spent his entire life working the land and also ran a dairy farm for many decades until the government buyout in 1988.
Eldon had a strong testimony and love for his Savior and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He served in many callings for the LDS church with exemplary dedication. Eldon and Arlene also served as temple officiators in the Logan temple for 14 years.
We as a family have been blessed and honored to call him our dad. His love, patient example and humble guidance for his family and all he knew will remain in our hearts forever. To our father we would like to share the words we are sure his Heavenly Father spoke to him upon his return home, “Well done though good and faithful servant.”
Eldon is survived by his wife Arlene and two children, Nora Lee Hatch and Clair Cooper. Also by the above mentioned family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Heber and Nora Cooper, his son Lynn Cooper, and all of his siblings.
Funeral services will be held Saturday May 24, 2014 beginning at 12:00 in the Mt Sterling Chapel. (11th Ward) A viewing will proceed the funeral staring at 10:30 am. There will also be a viewing held Friday May 23, 2014 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan Utah from 6:00- 8:00 p.m.
We would like to thank all those who have extended kind acts of service and love to our family during this time. We would also like to thanks the Doctors and Staff at the Logan Regional Hospital Emergency room for the compassion and patience given to our family and father during his last hours.
