Eleanor R. Mathews

December 31, 1917 — July 14, 2015

Eleanor Rose Mathews, our loving Mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully in the early morning of Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Her long life ended quietly of causes .incident to age at Williamsburg Assisted Living Center in Logan.

Eleanor was born to Joseph Parker and Eleanor Redford Cooper, December 31, 1917, in Wellsville. She was the 8th child in the family of five sons and five daughters. She grew up in the rural community of Mt. Sterling.

She married Raymond D. Rose in 1938 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Three daughters and a son were born to them adding to Ray’s three daughters.

After Ray’s death, Eleanor married Howard Reynolds in 1976. He added joy and excitement to her life as they traveled and visited family and friends often. Howard started calling her Ellie and that name stuck with her from then on.

After Howard died in 1992, Ellie said she would never marry again. But she met LaGrand Mathews, and he swept her off her feet. They were married in 1993. Ellie and LaGrand had 20 good years together until he passed away in January 2013.

Ellie was a devoted Mother and homemaker and an active member of the LDS Church. She served in Primary, Young Women and Relief Society Organizations.

Ellie is survived by her children: Carol (Ben) Stromberg, Salt Lake City, Barbara Moore, Kathy Rose and David Rose all of Logan, and a step-daughter Mary Rae Propper of River Heights; 12 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren.

Ellie’s family extends our gratitude for the care and consideration provided by Primrose Home Care and hospice and the many thoughtful friends and assistants at Williamsburg.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan. A viewing will be held Friday, July 17, from 6-8 p.m. and before the services from 10:30-11:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Condolences and thoughts may be expressed online at www.allenmortuaries.net .
