Elinor Stock

Elinor (Jackie) Marion Stock of Logan, UT passed away on June 28, 2012 at the age of 87.

She was born 13 July 1924 in Montrose, CA to John Marion and Elinor Porterfield Clark Lahs. She was the oldest of their two daughters. Upon graduation from Glendale High School, and working for two years, she entered the United States Naval Reserves for Women. Her training was at Hunter College, New York City. She trained as a yeoman at University of Oklahoma, Stillwater, OK. Her permanent assignment was the U.S. Naval Air Station at North Island, San Diego. After discharge, she attended Glendale Community College and then University of California, Berkeley where she received her BA degree in 1950 and her teaching certificate, also Graduate Studies at San Francisco State University. She taught grades 1-6 and did substitute teaching in DeCota, San Leandro and Hayward School Districts.

While teaching, she met her husband, Feron Richard Stock,, DDS who was in the Navy. After his discharge, they were married in San Leandro, CA on 22 Dec. 1954. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple

Before becoming a member of the LDS church, Jackie was active from ages 13-21 in teaching Sunday School, organizing Summer Bible School and church nursery classes in the Presbyterian Church. As a member of the LDS Church, she spent many years in ward and stake Primary; Relief Society as a teacher and counselor in ward and stake; and teaching Sunday School. Jackie and Feron both received the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award for Service to Youth. They have been temple ordinance workers in Oakland and Logan Temples, served in the Family History Centers in Oakland and Logan.

While a Glendale College, she was a member of Epsilon Omega, a Leadership, academic and service sorority, and many campus clubs. At UC-Berkeley she served as Philanthropic Chairman for the AAUW-Aux., where her projects were youth oriented. PTA offices were held while her sons were in school. Alameda Dental Aux. had her chair philanthropic activities involving school children. In Girl Scouts she was a counselor as she was for Boy Scouts after being a Cub Scout Den Mother. She has extracted Civil War military names for the National Park Service which has greatly assisted genealogical research for both the Dept. of War and the LDS Church. She had great love and pride of her family. Also near and dear to her were the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, genealogy, reading, music, handwork, and the beauties of nature.

Jackie is survived by her husband, Feron Richard Stock, DDS , her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Among the greatest blessings she enjoyed was being mother to Richard Clark and Karl Feron Stock. Her sons brought delightful wives to bless the family. Rick and Phyllis Venita Maughan Stock are the parents of Jacob (Jake) Edward (Judy), Benjamin (Ben) Joseph (Nichole), Heidi Michelle (Ryan), Kathryn (Katie) Marion (John), and Michael Adam. Karl and Diane Stokes Stock are parents to Richard Karl (Jamii), Nathan Clark (Katie), Robert Lahs (Casie), Amy Diane (Travis), Laralynn, and Jeffrey DeLon. She leaves behind 13 great-grandchildren; James, Jaren, Sierra, Sydney, Elinor (Ellie), Olivia, Ava, Emma, Jackson, Maxwell (Max), Adam, Sarah, and Karley. She also leaves behind her sister, Dorothy B. McKenna from Redding, CA. She is preceded in death by both parents.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 (Noon) on July 2, 2012. Viewing will take place at the Allen Hall Mortuary in Logan, Utah on Sunday, July 1st from 6-8 p.m. and July 2nd at the Cliffside 1st Ward Chapel from 10-11:30 a.m. Bishop Joseph Jenkins of Cliffside 1st Ward will conduct. Burial will be at Logan Cemetery with military recognition. In lieu of flowers, she requests contributions be made to Boy Scouts of America Summer Camp Scholarship or the Cache Family History Center.
