Elizabeth Allen returned to her heavenly home on April 11, 2007 to a long awaited and glorious reunion with her loved ones.
Her love and dedication for family, friends, church, and community enriched the lives of everyone that she associated with.
Her wisdom, love, humor, knowledge and dedication to historical research with immaculate attention to detail have influenced the lives of many. She brought a sense of history alive to all who knew her and read her words.
She was born on August 9, 1931 in Paradise, Utah, to Oliver Norris and Edna Leishman Smith. Betty grew up in the town she adored learning from family and friends. She lived a sheltered life with her early years evolving around family, church and her community. Here she learned the value of hard work, love and respect for life.
She graduated from Paradise Elementary and South Cache High School. She was a member of the Sparta Pep Club and served in the senior class presidency. After graduating from high school, she attended Utah State University where she majored in business and was a member of the ROTC Sponsor Corp.
On August 1, 1951 she and Gerald Allen were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. Gerald was a home town boy and she had known him all her life. They made their home in Paradise and lived their most of their lives except for a few short intervals. They have exemplified a relationship of love, adoration and respect for each other for many years.
Throughout her life, Betty was a perfect role model as a wife, homemaker, hostess, mother, grandmother, neighbor, friend, confidant, business woman, and above all showed us the pure love of Christ, which is charity.
Betty often freelanced through typing thesis’ and dissertations at the University of Utah and Utah State University. She also worked for the U.S. Government at the Utah General Depot, and as a secretary for White’s Trout Farm. Her primary focus has always been her association with family and friends. Her passion for Paradise and its people led her to compile and author a book entitled “A History of Paradise Cache County, Utah 1860-1999”.
Throughout her life she has been an active member of the LDS church. She has served in numerous callings. She has established and enhanced many ward libraries, often supplementing them with items from her own home.
Several individuals have benefited and have received comfort through her love and service towards them. She prepared and delivered countless meals, gave of her time and
helped others when in need.
She has dedicated her life to family history, and temple work. Her efforts on earth will be applauded in heaven.
She is fondly remembered with love and compassion by her husband, Gerald, children, grandchildren, siblings and friends. Her children and their spouses are: Oliver Brad (Lisa) Allen of Paradise UT, Gerald Kent (Linda) Allen of Murrieta CA, and Linda Kae Allen of South Ogden, UT. Also, her sister Janet Thurston (Stephen) of Hyde Park, UT and brother-in-law, Bartley Hatch of Beaverton, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Brent, and sister, Ilean. Her absence will be deeply felt by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be missed but never forgotten by all those who knew her.
A heartfelt thank you and blessing is bestowed on the many friends and family members that have supported Betty throughout her life. Special thanks are extended to the people at McKay Dee hospital who helped her in her final hours.
