Ellis Mason “Doc” Taft, 76, passed away unexpectedly early Wednesday, May 26, 2010, from complications following a heart attack & strokes with family by his side.
Ellis “Mason” was born in Bicknell, Utah on September 4, 1933. He was born to Ellis Varvilla Taft and Edith Loretta Bushnell Taft. Ellis “Mason” spent most of his youth in American Fork. He was the second of eight children. He graduated from American Fork High School in 1951 and then enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country for 30 years and retired honorably with many medals, awards and achievements.
He met his wife, Geraldine Louise Hixson Taft, in 1952 in Lancaster, PA. They were married on October 30, 1952.
Ellis “Mason” was an avid dog lover and family man and adored his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. But most of all, he treasured his spouse, Geri.
He was from a very close knit family and was a loving son and brother to his mother, father and sisters.
He was a superb scoutmaster and helped 15 scouts earn their Eagle status during his service in 5th Ward, LDS Church in San Diego, California.
He was generous and kind soul who never turned down a call for help. He had built many friendships over the years with his neighbors and his extended Wal-Mart family.
Because he was such a lover of animals and never wanted to see one suffer, we ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the Cache Humane Society at P.O. Box 3640, Logan, UT 84323 or by calling (435) 792-3920.
