Ellwood West Rasmuson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend returned peacefully to our Heavenly Father on July 29, 2009. He was born September 3, 1917 in Pleasant Grove, Utah to Nils Gunnar Rasmuson and Lydia Leona West, the second of six children. He is survived by one sister, Metta R. Schow of Orem.
He married his eternal sweetheart, Fawn McFarland, on July 9, 1941 in the Logan Temple. They were blessed with six children, Dale McFarland (Linda), Ellen (John) Collins, Karl Gunnar (Connie), Jean (Darrell) Newbold, Linda (Ron) Chapman, and Ann (Robert) Saxon.
After serving a mission to Sweden and Eastern States, he served his country in the United States Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. He worked diligently for the United States Postal Service, ending his career as Assistant Postmaster. Many physical ailments and challenges didn’t stop him from living a full life. The family would like to express appreciation to the many doctors and nurses who helped him with his health problems. They are grateful for the friendship, help and blessings he received from relatives, friends, and the members of the Logan Fifth Ward where he lived and served faithfully for over 60 years of his life.
Ellwood will be remembered for his loving compassion, unfailing dedication to Church and family, his perseverance, patience and long suffering, years of Family History work, work with computers, and most of all, love for his family and his Savior, Jesus Christ. He bore his testimony and shared his wisdom with all. He is a man that has been admired and endeared by many and will be sorely missed.
Ellwood leaves a glorious posterity consisting of his wife, their children and spouses, 27 grandchildren, and 38 great-grandchildren, with one great-grandson preceding him in death.
Funeral services will be held August 10th at noon in the Logan 5th Ward Chapel, 502 East 300 North.
