Dr. Elmer Garth Larsen, 76, died unexpectedly Monday, February 19, 2007, in Logan, Utah. Elmer was born December 8, 1930, in Hyrum, Utah. He was the fourth son and the sixth of seven children born to E.N. Larsen and his wife Gertrude Prouse Larsen.
Elmer graduated from South Cache High School as valedictorian having been Student Body President. He graduated from Utah State University. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force as a First Lieutenant, excelling as a flight controller. He completed dental school in San Francisco, California, at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at the University of Pacific. Elmer was also Student Body President at dental school. His career included leadership in professional societies.
Still active in dentistry at the time of his death, Elmer practiced in Southern California, Oroville, California, and Logan, Utah.
Elmer’s service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was extensive and one of the great loves of his life. His zeal in family history research also extended to his hobbies, especially fishing, gardening and hunting. Elmer was always a humorous, energetic and quick-witted friend.
Preceding Elmer in death were his sons Russell Larsen and Niel Larsen, step-daughter Tammy Foursha, sister Edris Larsen Ward, brother Wayne Larsen, and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Shirley Larsen, sons Kendall Larsen (Elsa) of Oroville, California, and Gary Larsen of Long Beach, California, daughters Jennifer Larsen Gilchrist (Jonathan) of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Emilee Larsen Belliston (Devon) of Logan, Utah, step-son Todd Foursha (Wen) of Petaluma, California, step-daughter Teresa Foursha of Oroville, California, and many grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters Verla Groll (Ernie) of Smithfield, Utah, and Norene Pond of Westlake Village, California, brothers Lyle Larsen (Joyce) of Mission Viejo, California, and Dean Larsen (Geneal) of Provo, Utah, and many extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at 12 PM on Friday, February 23, 2006 in the Hyrum 7th Ward Chapel, 190 West Main Street in Hyrum. A viewing will be held at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E Center Street, Logan, Utah, on Thursday, February 22, 2007, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and on Friday, February 23, 2007 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church.
