Our beloved mother, Elna P. King, passed away Friday, January 27,2012 at the home of her daughter, Karen, surrounded by loving family. She was born on April 12, 1915 in Logan Utah to Samuel Peterson and Carrie Cronquist Peterson, the oldest of four children.
A lifelong resident of Cache Valley, she grew up on Preston Avenue, attended Logan City schools, graduating from Logan High School. She married Merlin Ray King in the Logan LDS Temple on June 6, 1941. He preceded her in death in August of 1995. They taught their children the value of hard work and good fun from their dairy farm in North Logan Utah. Elna also worked for many years as a food manager at North Logan Elementary School. Merlin and Elna enjoyed square dancing, traveling, boating and camping together. Elna was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many capacities including Primary president and as a missionary with her husband in Birmingham Alabama. Temple service in the Logan LDS temple together was also a great joy in their lives. She enjoyed the love of many friends and neighbors throughout her life. Mother loved to crochet, read good books, attend and participate in drama and music productions. Her greatest joy was her family. She loved having children and grandchildren visit and cooking delicious food for them. She taught her family the gospel through word and deed and was a great example to all.
She was proud of each of her children: Sam (Pam), West Valley, Utah; he preceded her in death; Nyla (Garald), currently serving a mission in West Malaysia; Karen (Arthur), Pleasant Grove, Utah ; and Kent (Sheila), Frederick, Maryland. She has twenty grandchildren, forty-three great grandchildren and two great-great (twin boys) grandchildren. Her three brothers and one grandson preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2012 in the North Logan Thirteenth ward chapel (1850 North 400 East in North Logan, Utah) at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held at Allen Mortuary (420 East 1800 North) on Wednesday, February 1, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services.
