Elwin H. Andersen

August 6, 1926 — May 2, 2011

Elwin H. Andersen, beloved father, brother, and grandfather passed away on May 2nd, 2011 due to surgical complications. He was born on Aug. 6th, 1926 to LeRoy C. Andersen and Ivy O. Hansen.
Elwin lived and worked in Richmond, Utah most of his life. He started working at the age of 16 for PET MILK Co. in Richmond to help support his family after the death of his father. He was drafted into the Army at the age of 17 and fought in Japan during World War II and was awarded The Medal Of Honor for his services. After the war, Elwin returned to Richmond and began working to care for his family. He also loved to farm and started a small farm shortly after returning home.
Elwin was a member of the LDS church and married his love, Ina Jean Hall, in 1950. They were married in the Logan LDS temple. During their marriage, they were blessed with three daughters, Linda Rae, Elaine, and MarJean. Sadly, Ina Jean preceded him in death.
Elwin loved to keep busy. When PET MILK Co. closed, he expanded his farm and started a dairy with one of his son-in-laws. He also worked for North Cache and Summit schools in custodial maintenance. Elwin loved to dance. He would go dancing every weekend that he could.
Several years went by before the farm shut down because of economic hardships. Not one to sit by and do nothing, Elwin started working in the carpet and flooring business. He laid carpet and flooring for the next 35 yrs. He also taught three of his grandsons his trade. One started his own business and two still work in the flooring business. Elwin was a wonderful teacher and mentor. He retired from the flooring business and laid his last carpet at the age of 75.
Elwin was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother (Jess Andersen). He is survived by his sister: LaRee (Forrest) Spackman-Rowley; brother: Lowell (LeReta) Andersen; daughters: Linda Andersen, Elaine (Steve) Ward, and MarJean (Preston) Watts, and dear close friend: Ladelle Smith, 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 5 at the LDS Church, 150 So. 100 E. Richmond, UT. A viewing will be held at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center St in Logan, Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM and from 11:30-12:30 PM prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Richmond City Cemetery. Condolences and thoughts may be expressed to the family online at www.allenmortuaries.net .
