Emilie Parrish Scott, 81, passed away on February 26, 2014, at Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation, following a short illness brought on by acute kidney failure and other medical challenges she had endured since the passing of her husband of 56 years in April 2013. She has missed him deeply for the past 10 months.
She was born on July 9, 1932, in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, to Charles and Otto Parrish. She was one of 10 children. It was there in White Sulphur Springs that many in her family joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Branch meetings were often held in the Parrish home. After her father passed away, the family moved to Huntington, West Virginia, in 1949, where she graduated from high school the following year.
After graduating from high school and attending a local business school, she worked for several years in Huntington. It was then that Emilie sought an adventure by moving to Logan, Utah, to live with her oldest sister and brother in law, Roy and Virginia Dew. She soon found a job at 1st National Bank, where she had many great friends who welcomed her to Logan. Years later she worked for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 18 years as a custodian.
One of the missionaries who had eaten often at the Parrish home in Huntington introduced Emilie to one of his good friends, Vaughn LeRoy Scott, Jr. She often told her children that it was love at first sight for both of them. They were married on May 20, 1957, in the Logan LDS temple.
Emilie was an excellent cook and loved trading recipes with friends and family. She was also an avid reader, and when her eyesight deteriorated, she continued with this passion by listening to books on tape. She treasured visiting her sister and her family in Murray, Utah, and traveling back east to see family and friends in West Virginia. It was during these trips that Emilie and her family saw many national and church historical sights. Roy and Emilie loved to camp in their trailer house and were part of the camping group The Good Sam’s Club. In particular, they loved to camp at Tony Grove and Blacksmith Fork Canyon. They spent wonderful weekends and summers camping with their good friends. Emilie also had many lifetime friends from her many years of bowling in various leagues in Logan.
Because she was an excellent cook, Emilie loved the holidays. Christmas was her favorite. She loved the food, the decorations, buying presents and being with her family. She succeeded in making Christmas magical for her family, year after year.
Emilie is survived by her three children and their spouses – Craig (Cathy) of Roseville, California, Kyle (Cindy) of Millville, Utah, and Stacey (Mark) of Issaquah, Washington. 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren also survive her. In addition, a brother, Doug Parrish, Illinois, and a sister-in-law, Imogene Parrish, Ohio, survive her.
We will remember Emilie for being completely selfless and for her infectious laugh.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am at the Crockett Ward, 325 Lauralin Drive, at 11:00 AM on Saturday. March 1, 2014. There will be a viewing at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 AM before the funeral. Interment will follow at the Millville City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at
