Emma Rae Anderson Eyre

May 24, 2014 — November 22, 2014

LOGAN, UTAH: Emma Rae Anderson Eyre, 88, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2014, at Logan Regional Hospital, where she had been admitted only 36 hours before.
Emma Rae embraced life from the minute she was born on May 24, 1926. She was raised in Tremonton, Utah and graduated from Bear River High school. She was involved in almost every activity, in student government, and became the first female Student body President of BRHS, replacing a male classmate who left to serve in World War II.
After high school, Emma Rae moved to Logan to attend Utah State University, where her love affair with Cache Valley began. She was a proud and active member of Kappa Delta Sorority, served in student government, and also in many, many other activities.
Emma Rae met, and fell head over heels for Vern Bingham Eyre. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple on June 18, 1946. They both graduated from USU in June of 1948 and left Cache Valley for Vern to attend dental school in Kansas City, Missouri. Upon completion of dental school, Vern and Emma Rae returned to their beloved Logan, set up a dental practice, had 5 daughters and 1 son, and remained heavily involved with Church and community responsibilities.
Emma Rae and Vern were a great team! They were Aggies to the core. They had season tickets for almost every sport and event the University sponsored. They served USU together on the Alumni Council, worked in various other capacities, and treasured receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award. They also served the people of Cache Valley in many different organizations, and received Logan City's Distinguished Service Award.
Vern and Emma Rae loved to entertain and were well known in the neighborhood for their crazy parties, showers, and get togethers for no reason at all. Their door was open to everyone and their lights were always on (literally). They loved life and loved people.
Emma Rae loved the Lord and was a covenant woman. She always said yes to her callings in the Church and served well as a teacher, advisor, and administrator in almost every auxiliary. She was courageous and steadfast and never complained as life's roller coaster took the occasional dive. She loved being a stay-at-home mom, but as her children grew, she eventually went back to work, teaching at Mount Logan Middle School. She loved the faculty and staff there and especially loved her students.
Family meant everything to Emma Rae. She loved her children and grandchildren and continually taught them important lessons, by example and through meaningful conversations. She rarely missed a game, program, concert or performance where her kids or grandkids were involved.
Emma Rae loved Vern and he truly loved her. They celebrated each day of their life together and although Vern's last few years were difficult for her, she embraced that time with courage and confidence, holding fast to her faith in Heavenly Father's plan for them.
Emma Rae's positive outlook helped her maintain an active life after becoming a widow. Her children kept her involved with all the things she loved, namely the Aggies and all the family functions.
She continued to live alone until about 10 weeks prior to her death when unsteadiness from neuropathy necessitated her move to Legacy House. Although Emma Rae longed to be back athome, she graciously offered O'Aggies, Fat Boys and soda pop to everyone that came in to help her. She lived safely in that lovely facility until a serious infection required hospitalization late last Thursday night. With noisy, loving, visits from beloved family members filling the hours, Emma Rae went to sleep with a happy, grateful heart and simply didn't wake up. What a blessing for a wonderful lady who lived life the way it should be lived, with love and commitment for the things that really count!
Emma Rae is survived by her children: Vicki Rae (Joe) Blanch, Logan; Kandi Lu (Paul) Larsen, Logan; Bunni Jo (Paul) Miller, Centerville; Kimberli Ann (Jeff) Burbank, Logan; Tifani Dene (Steve) Price, Kamas; Brik Vern (Susan) Eyre, Chicago, IL; 37 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren , and 6 great grandchildren coming soon; and her brothers Jack (Verna) Anderson, Provo and David (Helen) Anderson, St. George. She was preceded in death by her faithful husband, Vern, her parents, Richard and Wilma Anderson, brother, Richard Anderson, grandson, Brett Eyre Blanch and great grandson, Paul Joel Miller.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 29th at 11:00 a.m. in the 24th Ward LDS Chapel, 1225 North 1600 East, Logan. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service, and also the night before, Friday, November 28th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributing to the Perpetual Education Fund of the LDS Church or to the Vern and Emma Rae Eyre Scholarship Fund at Utah State University.
The family would like to publicly express appreciation to the loving neighbors in the 24th Ward for their years of service and friendship to Emma Rae and Vern, to the staff and aides at Legacy House for their care and genuine affection during Emma Rae's time there, and say thank you to the great ER staff and the "Transitional" wing at Logan Regional hospital for not only taking care of our mom, but anticipating our needs as well.
