Ervin Crosbie

Ervin Robert Crosbie, Jr. of River Heights (know by many of his friends as “Bing:”or “Erv”) passed away peacefully at home at the age of 87, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, December 29, 2009. He was born on February 19, 1922 in Ogden, Utah to Ervin Robert, Sr. and Mary Payne Crosbie. He was the oldest of four children.
He attended school in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School. He then attended Weber State College and graduated in 1942 with an Associate’s Degree in Science. After graduating from college, he met Kleta Hale and they were married June 8, 1943 in the Logan LDS Temple.
Ervin then enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and was called to active duty in July of 1943 and eventually served in the South Pacific. Upon his return from the service, he continued his education at Utah State Agricultural College where he graduated in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science in Arts and Sciences. Upon graduating, he then went to work for Sears in Logan where he retired after 36 years of service.
In 1948 he and Kleta moved to River Heights where he resided until his death. For 45 years he served River Heights City as recorder, treasurer, and city manager. He retired from the City in 1994 when he had surgery for a brain aneurysm.
In June 1995, he was honored as the Citizen of the Year for River Heights City. The “Ervin R. Crosbie Council Room” was named by the City in his honor. In 1996 he received “The Lieutenant Governor’s Award” as the “Utah’s Civic Volunteer of the Year”.
Ervin faithfully served his family, the LDS Church, and his community. He had a warm and loving personality and many wonderful friends. He enjoyed spending time with his family and prior to his surgery loved to travel.
He loved working in his yard where he grew many beautiful flowers and had a large vegetable garden. He also raised many different varieties of animals and birds. He was a true “gentleman farmer”.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years; and five children: R. Brent (Bonnie) Crosbie of Providence; Karren (Steve) Mitchell of Tustin, California; Lynette (George) Harris of Helena, Montana; Gaylene (Jed) Merrill of North Logan; and Richard (Sherry) Crosbie of Providence. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister Lois (Ray ) Hobbs of Ogden and brother Keith (Pam) Crosbie of Las Vegas, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Merrill.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 2, at 12:00 pm in the River Heights Stake Center, 800 South 6th East, River Heights. There will be a viewing on Friday, January 1, 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan and prior to the services beginning at 10:30 am at the Stake Center.
Interment will be at the Providence Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.allenmortuaries.net .
