Eugene Anderson

April 5, 1925 — December 24, 2010

Eugene A. Anderson, 85, passed away December 24, 2010 at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City from complications following surgery.
Eugene was born April 5, 1925, in Central, Idaho, to Ervin William and Alda Hanson Anderson. He attended schools in Montpelier and McCammon and was active in all sports. He graduated from McCammon High School in 1943 where he was student body president. After high school, he joined the Navy and served on the destroyed USS Mustin in the Pacific theatre for the duration of World War II. Following his military service, Eugene attended Utah State University, majoring in accounting, where he graduated in 1951.
Eugene married Gloria Bishoff in McCammon, Idaho, in June 1951. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They are the parents of three children, Arlene, Alan, and Renae. They made their home in Logan for 50 years. In 2001, they moved to a new home in North Logan with a smaller yard as Eugene’s physical limitations became greater.
Eugene went to work for Utah Mortgage and Loan as an auditor in June, 1951, and worked there for 33 years, retiring in 1984 when the company moved its headquarters to Salt Lake City. He was Senior Vice President in charge of loan administration at the time of his retirement. During Gene’s time at the firm, he attended and graduated from mortgage banking school at both Stanford and Northwestern.
Eugene was an active member of the LDS Church. He was a high priest in the North Logan 12th Ward at the time of his death. As a member of the Logan 29th Ward, he served as a home teacher, general secretary of the Aaronic Priesthood, stake statistical clerk, stake auditor, and as financial clerk for 26 years in six different bishoprics. After retiring, he served an 18 month calling as an ancestral file evaluator.
In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed gardening and all sports. His warm smile, friendly greeting, and big heart will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria, of North Logan, his daughter Arlene (Regie) Secrist of Smithfield, his son Alan of Logan, his daughter Renae (Kip) Frost of Lewis Center, OH, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Betty Farnworth, Norma Armstrong, and Carolyn Miele. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law Joan Anderson, and two brothers LaVern and Lyle.
A viewing will be held Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 am at Allen Mortuaries of North Logan (420 East 1800 North). Gene’s request was a graveside ceremony at his death. Due to inclement weather, that short service will be held at Allen Mortuaries of North Logan at 12:00 noon. Burial will be at the Logan City Cemetery.
