Eugene Boynton Howe , loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, war veteran and devout Christian, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2016 in Logan, Utah. Gene, as he was known, was born April 27, 1928 in Long Beach California, the third child to Goldie Rita (Boynton) and Edward Franklin Howe. Siblings, Rita Hobson and Glen, preceded him in death.
After serving in the army during the Korean War, and returning to his work with General Telephone Company, he met and married Alice LuDean Seeholzer of Logan. Smitten by the beautiful young Mormon girl from Utah, and moved by the spirit he felt as he studied the gospel, Gene joined the LDS church. They were sealed in the Logan temple in 1958. He was dedicated to the faith to his death, serving for many years as a teacher and missionary. Gene and LuDean served in the Logan temple baptistery and as tour guides in the Logan tabernacle for many years.
Gene and LuDean resided in Garden Grove, California for most of their lives where they raised five children: Susan (Jerry) Dees, now of San Ramon CA, Steven (Jennifer) Howe, of Chino Hills CA, Karen Lockhart of Huntington Beach CA, Bruce (Christine) Howe of North Logan UT, and Brian (Kandi) Howe of Smithfield UT. He was a proud grandfather of 23 and great grandfather to 18, with 3 more on the way. In their twilight years Gene and LuDean moved back to her childhood home of Cache Valley, where they cared for her parents Ruben “Boots” and Ruby Seeholzer until their passing. They lived in North Logan, and recently moved into Pioneer Valley Lodge where LuDean continues to reside.
Dad will forever be remembered by many as one of the kindest and gentlest of men. He was indeed a true Christian in every way, caring for and sharing his time and talents with neighbors and friends. For years, he delighted Logan residents with scenery for the Pumpkin Walk, and Christmas light displays at his home, which tradition is continued by his son Bruce. He could build or fix anything, was seldom seen without a book in his hand, and loved to watch the beautiful Cache Valley sunsets.
The family would like to thank the employees of Pioneer Valley Lodge and Integrity Home Health for their exceptional service and caring for our father in his last years. And a special thank you to our Aunt and our mother’s sister, Janice (Dickson) Williams, for her unconditional love, service and caring for both of our parents. She is truly an angel among us.
Funeral services will be held, Friday December 2, 2016 at 11:00AM at the LDS meeting house at 1650 East 2600 North, North Logan Utah.
