Eva Amalie Gordy Sidwell, affectionately known as Lee
Sidwell to her friends, passed away August 5 in Logan,
Utah from causes incident to age.
She was born 12 June 1912 to Alva Nelson and Eula
Morrell Pemberton Gordy in Azusa, California, and
lived her early life with her younger sister,
Amaryllis Osborn Gordy, on a small farm in Azusa.
Their family later moved to Lynnwood, California,
where she attended high school, excelling particularly

in 1948. A year later tragedy struck when their
daughter Julie Diane contracted poliomyelitis. Lee and
her husband struggled valiantly to assist her daughter
through the use of much physical therapy, but Julie
Diane remained severely crippled all her life.
Eighteen years later the family moved to San Bruno,
California, where Robert went to work for United
Airlines. This employment provided for them passes to
travel, and they enjoyed visiting many parts of the
world. Lee loved to travel, and maintained extensive
diaries of her adventures.
Her husband Robert developed emphysema in the late
1980's, and Lee provided the loving nursing care he
needed until he passed away 19 December 1990. A few
years later she suffered a stroke which required her
to use a walker the rest of her life. She moved to
Logan in 1998, taking up residence in the Beehive Home
Assisted Living facility. She enjoyed reading, and was
a regular visitor to the Logan Library.
Lee had 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
