Evelyn Rosalie Burnes Haslem, 87, spouse of Dean W. Haslem, (deceased) passed away Friday, November 27, 2009 in Bountiful following complications from a fall. She was born January 8, 1922 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Ellen Nolte and Homer Burnes. Her one sister, Dorothy Jeane Gatherum, preceded her in death. She married Dean Wagstaff Haslem June 18, 1943 in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to North Logan in 1952 where they lived for 50 years and raised their family. Dean passed away in 2006.
Evelyn and Dean met in Wichita Falls while Dean was stationed at Shepherds Field, during World War II. Evelyn attended Business College and BYU. She had many interests that included flower arranging, home decorating, wedding cakes, oil painting, reading, embroidery, sewing, and her Church callings, especially road shows. She was a member of the Amigas Club. With Dean she served missions to Hartford, Connecticut in 1983 and Winnipeg, Canada in 1992. They also served many years in the Logan Temple.
Evelyn is survived by six children and their spouses: Kay (Chad) Watt of Amelia Island, FL; Bruce (Karen) Haslem, of North Logan, UT, currently serving in the Budapest Hungary mission; Janis (Dan) Griffin of Bountiful, UT, Debra (Ken) Lindsay of Manti, UT; LaRae (Marty) Tadlock of Oshkosh, WI; and Larry (Annette) Haslem of Petersboro, UT. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren. One great-grandson, Leland Heywood, preceded her in death.
A viewing will be held Wednesday, December 2nd, from 6 – 8:00 PM at Allen Mortuary, 420 East 1800 North, North Logan. The Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 3rd at 12:00 with a viewing from 10:30-11:45 AM at the North Logan 10th Ward Chapel, 1550 East 1900 North, North Logan.
