The world is a little dimmer today, as it has lost one of its shining stars. Evelyn W. Owens passed away June 21, 2016 after an amazingly full life, and a valiant fight against the cancer that eventually claimed her. Evelyn had a secret desire to be a Hollywood Star, but instead assumed a lifetime role as a supporting actress to everyone in her life. She pursued the role of Mother and raised nine children in the process. In order to take a more active role in her children's education, she played the role of teacher and leader in the early days of the homeschooling movement in Utah. Evelyn took on a project that cast her as a foreign missionary with her husband Robert T. Owens. Together they played Missionaries for four long and successful seasons, taking the show overseas to Africa and Brazil. Evelyn even learned to speak Portuguese to be more effective in her role.
Evelyn was incredible at being the supporting actress that her children, grand-children, friends, neighbors and church needed. She never turned down any role she was offered or was asked to play. She has many adoring fans around the globe as a result of her tireless work. As Evelyn approaches her grand curtain call with her Father in Heaven, she will be greeted and cheered by her husband and life long co-star Robert T. Owens, her brother and sister Ward and Gwen Wilson and three of her granddaughters, Jayci Morrill and Hailey and Jessica Jacobs, as well as all of her loved ones who have gone before. Evelyn leaves behind a large company of cast and crew that include her three sisters, nine children, thirty-eight grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, with one more in the casting office waiting for his/her part.
If all the world is a stage, the lifetime achievement award for best supporting actress goes to Evelyn W. Owens. We love you.
